OkCupid starts using matching questions made by ChatGPT
Since it came out in December 2022, the AI chatbot ChatGPT has had a tight grip on the internet. Users of dating apps started sending messages to matches almost right away, so it's not surprising that dating apps are getting in on the trend.
OkCupid has started to test out asking matching questions made by ChatGPT to its users. Michael Kaye, the global head of communications for the app, asked ChatGPT what questions to ask on a dating app and what questions to ask on a date.
Are you more of a quiet person or a social person?
Do you like to get up early or stay up late?
How do you like to spend your weekends?
What do you value most in a partner?
How do you know whether a relationship is ready for the next step?
How do you find a balance between your own needs and those of your partner?

It turns out that most of the people who answered were shy, stayed up late, and like to spend the weekend at home. Nearly half of the people who answered said that trust is the most important trait in a partner, and they go with their gut when it comes to taking their relationship to the next level. People in relationships find a balance between their own needs and those of their partners by talking about them, making time for themselves, and going out with friends without their partners.
"Daters who think ChatGPT is a life saver get almost 40 percent more Matches on OkCupid than those who think it's too big brother," Kaye told Mashable. "So we decided to use ChatGPT to write our famous in-app matching questions that power our algorithm." "The chatbot from OpenAI wrote a half-dozen questions for us about things like what you value most in a partner and how you can balance your own needs with your partner's needs in a relationship." These new questions are getting a lot of positive feedback from daters.
More than 125,000 people have answered the questions, and the number keeps going up. Gen Z is definitely in the lead. 31% of Gen Z daters on OkCupid don't think it's a breach of trust to use AI to make a profile or message other people on dating apps.
Still, OkCupid found that 52 percent of users think using AI on profile photos is a turn-off, while only 6 percent think it's a turn-on and 43 percent aren't sure. 47 percent of the users didn't know if they would keep dating someone who said they first talked to them through an AI-based bot. 34% said they wouldn't keep the relationship going, while 18% said they would.
ChatGPT has only been around for a few months, but it is already changing the way some singles meet. As AI gets better, our dating lives will probably change, too.
